Yahad - In Unum News debut draws comments, suggestions

American Jewish Conference of Presidents hosts Father Desbois
Father Desbois was the guest speaker at a January 12 luncheon in New York for members of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. More than 40 leaders of the Jewish community were in attendance to hear Father Desbois present his case for community action and to ask the established Jewish community to help locate as many mass graves as possible before “it’s too late.”

Monthly conferences begin at CERRESE
Providing perspective on the Eastern Holocaust, from multiple viewpoints –historical, sociological, political, geopolitical, artistic, literary and psychoanalytical viewpoints – this is the objective of a new series of monthly conferences beginning this month in Paris at the European Resource Center for Research and Learning about the Eastern Holocaust (in French CERRESE). The first session of “Thursdays at CERRESE” was held January 21 and featured psychoanalyst Jean-Jacques Moscovitz.

Exhibition, conference in Paris, part of Holocaust remembrance week
On the occasion of the week of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust and the prevention of crimes against humanity, Yahad – In Unum is sponsoring an exhibition of the “Holocaust by bullets” in Paris. A conference also is being held during the week at which Father Desbois will make a presentation.

International effort to safeguard mass graves of the Eastern Holocaust
Yahad – In Unum has joined with the American Jewish Committee and other leading Holocaust remembrance organizations in launching an international initiative to protect the mass graves of victims executed by the Nazis in Eastern Europe. At a January 20 press conference in Berlin, with the participation of representatives of the U.S. and German governments, the groups issued a statement stating that, “Sixty-five years after the end of the war, it is time to complete work on this sacred task.”

English paperback edition of The Holocaust By Bullets now available
Palgrave Macmillan, publisher of the English version of THE HOLOCAUST BY BULLETS by Father Desbois has announced the publication of a paperback edition. The book, WINNER OF THE 2008 NATIONAL JEWISH BOOK AWARD, recounts the origins of Father Desbois’ efforts to uncover the truth behind the murder of 1.5 million Jews in Eastern Europe by Nazi mobile units during World War II.

Presentation of Yahad-In Unum’s work at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome
On January 18, Father Desbois was invited to deliver a special lecture at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome during the meeting of the Bilateral Commission of the Holy See and the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. At the conclusion of the meeting, the commission released a statement urging “the respective religious communities to support and publicize this very important work, in order to learn from the tragedies of the past to protect and respect the sanctity of human life everywhere so that atrocities will never reoccur”.
